Safe & Caring Environment
Canberra Aged Care offers a safe and caring environment to each individual resident. We always ask our prospective families as to what exactly they require for their parent or partner and the usual answer is, “We want them to be happy and safe” and this is a significant part of the criteria that guides us at Canberra Aged Care.
Providing Safe Dementia Care
Besides being a leader in aged care and dementia management, we also take pride in being one of the safest facilities in ACT. We comply with all the Nursing Home safety standards to ensure the safety of our residents. We have a “9C” Fire Safety Compliance which includes state of the art fire detection systems and sprinklers throughout. We believe that the elderly have a right to the best possible quality of life and freedom, and we have designed our facilities keeping this in mind. Due to our buildings design and lay-out, our residents experience the highest degree of freedom that could be expected in a safe and secure facility
Nursing and Allied Health Services
Registered nursing staff are rostered on 24-hours a day to cater for our resident’s needs. Our residents are attended to by certified nursing assistants at all times, delivering comfort both to the resident and to their families, who remain assured that their loved ones are in good hands. The registered nurses at Canberra Aged Care are highly experienced in aged care and they provide not only nursing care but more importantly, peace of mind and assurance both to the residents and to their families alike.
All residents participate in a case management module at Canberra Aged Care so that the registered nurses can effectively and efficiently oversee the assessment and ongoing care of the residents to ensure the best outcomes.
Access to Health Care Professionals
The residents at Canberra Aged Care have access to allied health professionals i.e. gerontologist, physiotherapist, podiatrist, dietitian, speech pathologist, dentist and other healthcare professionals. Each resident can choose his own attending general practitioner to keep the resident comfortable and familiar to their health and wellbeing.
To assist the registered nurses, we have both Enrolled Nurses and Assistant Nurses. Canberra Aged Care has over ninety qualified and experienced staff on duty throughout the week to provide comfort to both the residents and the families.
No home can be complete without a kitchen. Canberra Aged Care has its own on site kitchen where all of the meals are cooked by our head chef. Our chef prepares food that appeals to every taste and dietary requirements. We recognise that not all people are alike, this is the reasoning behind our menus. Our menus are varied and have options on a daily basis so that all our guests enjoy their meals. The menu provided is custom made in house to ensure all our residents are catered for to meet their nutritional needs.
As well as our main meals, we offer freshly baked cakes and savoury snacks on a daily basis for morning tea, afternoon tea and dessert. While designing our menu we keep in mind the seasonal variety of produce. In saying this all seasons require a different menu to suit the conditions and lifestyle offered at Canberra Aged Care.
For the convenience of residents and relatives, Canberra Aged Care has its own onsite laundry which is operated by conscientious staff that launders all linen. The clothing of the residents is also washed, folded and returned to the residents on a daily basis in their respective rooms. The repair and name tagging of clothes is also available for the convenience of residents and relatives.
